Will Spring Ever Come?????

We have played a lot of basketball games, soccer games, and volleyball games since my last post, and we still have lots more to go. It is going to be so sad when soccer is over for Cory, but I am trying to enjoy every minute! Brooke is doing great with basketball, and the Delta Middle School 8th graders are still undefeated. Dani is doing great with volleyball and those high school volleyball coaches are putting the pressure on her to play volleyball. Won't ever happen though!

Brooke has had 3 games since the last post. This is a picture of her during a tip off on March 27 against Juab. They have also played South Sevier where Brooke had a great game, and then just last night a game against Springville, their toughest competition yet and they won 38-40! Dani was the only one who saw the game as Jay and I attended the sterling scholar awards where Cory was competing as the Math Sterling Scholar (more about this at the end).

On March 28, Dani had her friend birthday party. Isn't this a fine looking spread for 12 year old girls? Dani attended her first mutual last week and had a great time.

Also on Saturday the 28th, Jay took Brooke to a clogging competition in St. George. Her cousin Ally and Rachel are also on te team and they did great, placing second and will be going to Lagoon on May 2 to clog.

Brooke also went down to Cedar on Friday March 27th for the state science fair. She is becoming quite the busy 8th grader and was very happy when Saturday evening arrived and she could just relax and hang out on the couch watching a movie (actually it was several movies!) She did very well at the science fair, bringing home a silver medal for her gum digesting project.




The Delta High School soccer team is doing very well this year, which was a little unexpected. They are playing well as a team, and somehow getting wins despite the fact they have no depth, and are starting 2 freshman. Cory has a team high of 6 goals so far and that with 2 of the games playing defense only. They played a very aggressive Salem Hills team on March 27, then again March 31 at Salem Hills, and won both games 2-0. Cory's game on the 31st was preceeded by his sterling scholar interviews in Richfield, which ended at 2:15, then a fast as we dared drive up to Salem for the game. We were only about 20 minutes late, and it all turned out good as they were already ahead 2-0 when we arrived. Then on Friday, April 3rd, we went over to Carbon. Carbon always has a weak team, and this year was the same as we beat them 7-2. Cory got 2 goals in that game. We had to drive through major snow storms on the way, but luckily the roads were good on the way home. It was so cold at the game. Then this week we had a game on Monday the 6th against Wasatch. It was a non region practice game and Wasatch is from a tough region that Park City and Judge are in. We won the game 2-0, so it was a great win for us.

On Saturday the 4th Cory was able to make it to the Delta Invitational track meet. He was hoping to get a state qualifying time, but it was so cold that he was not able to run as fast. It was REALLY cold and we would just wait in the car in between his events, get out just to watch him, then back tot he car. The wind was blowing and it was freezing! This is how Cory dressed for the meet, plus had a couple blankets to wrap up in. Just before he would run, he would shed the outer layers. Brrrrr. He did well though and took 1st in both the 110 meters and 300 meters hurdles. He also ran in a 4x4 relay.


Sunday we enjoyed staying home and watching conference. It was our smallest group ever as you can see and a bit lonely, but we still enjoyed our conference cinnamon rolls (always makes me think of Grandma B when I make them) and our usual activities. One of the most noticeable differences was how clean the family room stayed! It looks pretty amazing don't you think? And it only took Brooke 10 minute to clean everything up. I would still pick a house full over a clean family room though.

It was so much warmer on Sunday that the kids had to have a nice game of croquet afterwards.

Wendy brought out a nice gift for Cory, this is SUPPOSED to represent his graduation gift, he requested a blue, white and gold BYU colored afghan, but Wendy told him she wouldn't make him one, instead she had a few scrap of red and white left over so made him this. Pretty funny!

STERLING SCHOLAR REPORT

Well the big news for the week was Cory's sterling scholar awards. It is so intense and was very competitive this year. There were 10 schools competing and Cory got runner up as the math sterling scholar, so we were happy about that. In our book, he of course should have been the winner, but there were some really amazing kids representing their schools, and Cory was one of them. Delta ended up with 7 runners up, and no winners, but did well.
