I decided I would attempt another go at keeping up with my blog. I will not try to catch up however, but may give a brief update of my past year which has been full of joys, sorrows, new things and lots of great family times.
But to start with, we are now nearly into springtime which is unbelievable! Brooke is playing 8th grade basketball, Cory has started senior year of soccer and soon we will be mowing lawns again! Today Shauna is coming down with Kait and Logan and the plan is for her to stay overnight, then leave the kids with us while she goes to visit Amy. Needless to say we are beyond excited to tend Kait and Logan over the weekend. This week is also the piano festival and we will be glad to have it done. Abby is coming down to judge with Amalie and so will be bring Haddie along, so we will see all three grandchildren!
This week has been busy with Cory's birthday celebration. He has turned 18 and we celebrated in fine fashion. Saturday I had a surprise party for him and had about 12 friends over. They had a blast playing games in the hall and laughing and visiting. He has a great group of friends. Then on Sunday we went up to Orem to celebrate with the family up there and had the party at TJ and Shauna's (they are always willing to let us party at their house). Then Monday we had a small party at home consisting of Jay and I, Cory, Brooke, Dani and Grandpa Burnham. We were missing Wendy, and Grandma and Grandpa Fin as Grandma is still in the Nephi hospital getting her strength back from her hip replacement surgery on the 19th of Feb. We had a yummy meal of Lasagne, Bread Sticks, Salad, Corn, Lime Pear Jello, and White Cake.
Along with Cory's 18th birthday we had to get his eagle scout application all handed in BY MIDNIGHT Sunday night. NO EXCEPTIONS. He finished his project a couple weeks ago. But had a hard time getting his application finished up, just a few details still to do. It is such a huge thing to do all the paper work, and I think the scout people are extremely strict, I mean isn't doing the merit badges and the project what it is all about anyway? But no they look for every possible problem with the paper work. Cory had downloaded the application from the internet (BSA no less) to fill out, but after we handed it in (10:30 pm Sunday night) there was a problem with it. The 1st two pages were not back to back like they should have been, and one page had a place for his SS# which wasn't supposed to be there, so we had to redo it. But it is done and turned in and apparently approved!!!! Yea!!! Here is a picture of Cory with all of his distraction toys for the Primary Children's hospital. It was an awesome project and took a lot of work, but he is very proud of his efforts. In fact he is going to be making more of these to sale as people really like them.
Here is Cory and Grandpa B drilling out the middle of the tornado tubes for the bottles.
Tues Brooke had a basketball game in Moroni and Cory a soccer game in Cedar against Canyon View. Both won their games, Brooke 49-27, and Cory 4-0 and played great. The wind at the soccer game was terrible-40mph and nearly blew us away! It was crazy to watch that wind carry the ball and there were many nearly straight up and then back down kicks as players tried to kick the ball into the wind.
Cory played both defense and forward, but will be playing forward for the season.
Here are some pictures of February events if you want to check them out:
Dani's Gum Grafts to build up her gums for braces. YUK!
Now her braces all in and straightening her teeth!
Cory after taking 5th place in the 60 meter hurdles at state indoor track held at the Kearns Ice Oval on Febrauary 7th.
It just so happened while we were there that Apollo Ohno was there training with other skaters, so we watched them skate for a while. He is the one in the red helmet if you can't tell.
Kati helping Grandpa blow out his candles for his birthday on February 7th.
Brooke and Dani's Junior Jazz teams. Brooke is as tall as the coach almost!
Cory singing with his quartet at the Bone Voce Valentine dinner. They sang "When I Fall in Love" and it was awesome.
The Valentine Card Shop in production.
Jamie was home for Valentine's Day and it was fun to have her helping with the cookies and all the fun with the dinner and the string activity.
